Shoppers at Sainsbury's, Littlemore, can now convert any small change from jars or piggy banks into vouchers to use at the check-out.
A company called Coinstar has installed a machine that counts small change at the rate of 600 coins per minute.
The Royal Mint reckons that more than £380m, or 13bn coins out of a total of 22bn, is lying around idle.
