An attack on a newsagent's shop, which police have said was racially motivated, has been dismissed s "petty and annoying" vandalism.

Four youths were filmed by a CCTV camera spraying graffiti on a wall and pavement outside the Tura shop in Oxford Road, Abingdon. The words "Your Dead" (sic) were scrawled on the pavement.

PC Mark Williams of Abingdon police said he believed race was a factor in the attack on the Asian-owned shop.

But the owner, who asked not to be named, said he had received no racial threats.

He said: "It is very annoying and is not the first trouble we have experienced. My car has been damaged several times. I have had windows smashed and paintwork scratched."

Peter Tothill, who runs Abiparts motor store in nearby St John's Road, said: "We have suffered from minor but annoying petty vandalism. Other shops near here have also suffered from time to time."

Anyone with information on the attack can call Abingdon police on 01235 556888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
