An award-winning station master, who has been praised by commuters for his cheerful attitude, has retired after 26 years on the railways.
Colin GilesColin Giles, 65, of Cavendish Park, Didcot, has worked at Cholsey Station for 15 years. Commuters said that despite a 5.30am start, he always has a friendly word for people on their way to work. He has also supported Cholsey 1000 Plus - an organisation behind community events.
Lynne Stone, who chairs Cholsey 1000 Plus, said: "Colin is a rare soul, who is always cheerful and really understands what true customer service is all about.
"He has taken the trouble to get involved with our village and we really appreciate him."
As a mark of appreciation, Cholsey 1000 Plus invited him as a VIP guest to Cholsey's millennium weekend, alongside the mayor of Wallingford and the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.
In 1998, his dedication paid off when Cholsey won first prize in the station of the year competition.
