A young man was hit by a car in the early hours of New Year's day as he walked home from work on an unlit main road, an inquest heard.
James Metcalfe, 22, of Tyrells Way, Sutton Courtenay, near Abingdon, was certified dead at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
The accident happened at 12.40am when Mr Metcalfe was walking home along the A4130 from The Applecart at the A34 Milton Interchange.
Gary Derriman, duty manager at The Applecart, Mr Metcalfe had drunk three or four pints of beer before walking home along the single carriageway.
Traffic officer, Pc David Simpson, said it was raining and conditions were dark and overcast when the accident happened.
Dr Bryan Warren, a consultant pathologist, said the level of alcohol found in Mr Metcalfe's blood was two and a half times the legal drink drive limit. Coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
