Cheetahs skipper Steve Johnston admits he is pleased with his form, despite now dropping to reserve in the new Green Sheet averages which take effect immediately.

He said: "My season so far has been pretty good. We are at the top of the Elite League despite the injury to Lukas Dryml. We're still front-runners in the toughest speedway league in the world, which feels great to me.

"I have been pleased with my form so far and, on the world championship front, the news is pretty exciting too with my qualification for the Inter-continental final at Vastervik in Sweden on August 11.

"At that time I'm going to be pretty busy with meetings before the big one on Wednesday and Thursday, plus practice on Friday and Saturday. Then there's the meeting itself, after which I'll back to the UK for meetings on Monday and Wednesday."

Johnno finished third in the Overseas final last year, and was hoping to get onto the rostrum again, but was just happy to quailfy again.

He added:" The top six riders from the Inter-continental final qualify for the Grand Prix challenge at Korsko, Slovenia on October 13, so we're on the GP trail again and raring to go."
