Banbury West End are through to the last 16 of the National Club League after completing their group games with a 100 per cent record.

West End beat Stourbridge 5-1 at the weekend to confirm top spot in the West Midlands group.

They are now expected to face Sutton Hard Court, from Birmingham, in a play-off match on Saturday, July 14. The match will take place at a neutral venue.

If West End win, they will go through to the finals, which will be between the top eight clubs in Britain, at the West Hants LTC in Bournemouth in September.

For the play-offs, West End will have their full-strength team available, with the exception of Iain Bates, whose other commitments meant he didn't play the two matches needed to qualify.

Team manager John Spratt explained: "Although we have qualified fairly easily, it was a disappointment that we didn't qualify Iain Bates for the latter stages. We were desperately trying to get him to play the second match, but he has been playing abroad and it wasn't possible."

However, West End have got a strong line-up, and Spratt is hoping the team can go all the way.

"Our team for the stages now will be Nick Gould, Colin Bennett, Richard Bloomfield and Neil Watts, and we are very hopeful.

"We have a good chance, but it depends on who plays for the opposition. You only need one person to be available or one not to be and the whole complexion changes.

"But I think the fairest thing to say is that we are not writing off our chances."
