Local businessman David Simpson has come to the rescue of 120-year-old Bicester Town.

The Hellenic League club were in difficulties and had a committee of just three people before inviting him to become chairman.

Simpson, 46, has big plans to revitalise the club by creating a community-orientated organisation.

He said: "I enjoy football and I want to make sure that we have football in Bicester. I want to build the foundations for a community club."

Among the sponsors for the club will be Choices Recruitment, of which he is a partner.

Their first major fundraising event will be a family fun day at the club's ground on Sunday, July 15, from 2pm.

Simpson had 20 years' experience of football when he formed the Stevenage Borough youth team that evolved into the Stevenage side which now play in the Nationwide Conference.
