Oxford United got back to winning ways at Farnborogh's Aimita Stadium on Saturday, but in a thoroughly unconvincing manner.
Dean Whitehead and Manny Omoyinmi struck a goal in each half to give Mark Wright's men victory. However, there were few positives the U's boss could take out of the game.
Omoyinmi saved United's blushes with the winner 12 minutes from time, when he fired home after a long ball from Whitehead.
Manny OmoyinmiBut although they chalked up their fourth victory in five games, the manner of United's win leaves Wright with a lot of work to do with the start of the season less than two weeks away.
United went into the game without new signings Scott Guyett and Martin Thomas, but there was better news of Chris Hackett, who was back in the action for the first time since of April.
Paul Tait and Jamie Brooks were also both involved, having missed the midweek defeat at Woking.
And it was Tait who had a great chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute, getting his head to Sam Stockley's cross but directing his effort straight at Darren Bonfield in the Farnborough goal.
