Berks, Bucks & Oxon will be playing off for the Daily Telegraph Salver after clinching the North of the Thames League title with victory over Essex at Stoke Park.

The tense 7-5 success means that the BB&O will now meet the South League winners at Moor Park on October 21.

James Lawson (Magnolia Park) gained two vital halves on the day, one with Oxford City's Clive Bowler in the morning foursomes. Bowler lost his singles.

*John Cronly, of Hadden Hill, was the leading Oxfordshire finisher in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon's Douglas Johns Trophy, played at Harewood Downs.

Cronly, who plays off four, shot rounds of 74 and 79 in this open event for golfers aged 16 and under from all over the country. The winner was David Gojka (Shifnal) with two rounds of 68.

*It was a case of lucky for some as 11-handicapper Suzanne Simms aced the 122-yard 13th hole on Frilford Heath's Blue Course.

Another hole-in-one last week came from Derek Standen, who aced the 16th hole at Waterstock.

*Studley Wood became the inaugural winners of the John Walters Team Challenge at Magnolia Park.

Their six-man team finished with 164 points from the best five scores to finish 12 ahead of runners-up Magnolia Park. Frilford Heath were third.
