A campaign launched by the Oxford Mail to raise funds for a children's accident and emergency centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital has got off to a flying start.
Readers have been handing in their old mobile phones at recycling points across the county. The phones are sold for recycling and all profits go directly to the Drayson's children's accident and emergency unit at the JR.
The children's A&E centre will form part of a £16m redevelopment of the Oxford hospital's critical care departments, scheduled for completion in 2003.
So far, two recycling bins have been filled. A total of 94 phones have been handed in at the JR and at Tesco on the Oxford Retail Park, Cowley, raising £215 for the campaign. For more details call 01865 222487.
