An RAF memorial Spitfire will feature in the grand finale of the first Abingdon Fayre on Sunday, August 12 when the airfield at Dalton Barracks re-opens for a day.
The Spitfire, which played a pivotal role in the Battle of Britain during World War Two, will be one of several vintage and classic aircraft performing at the Fayre organised by aeronautical enthusiast, Neil Porter, and a group of air buffs in aid of charity.
The Spitfire will fly in from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire for a seven-minute display at the end of the Fayre at about 4 o'clock.
There will also be four Tiger Moth biplanes and a Douglas DC3 Dakota.
In total there will be 25 aircraft and microlites on display including one of the latest Merlin helicopters, part of the new squadron of Merlins at RAF Benson.
For those with their feet firmly on the ground, there will be a display of vintage and classic ex-military and civilian vehicles, including a Williams BMW Formula One show car.
All proceeds will go towards the new Douglas House Hospice.
Mr Porter from Austin Place, Abingdon, said: "We staged a few small events in recent years that proved successful so the committee decided to spread its wings and go for something much bigger and more ambitious.
"We have managed to put together what we think will be a most interesting and varied collection of transport."
