Student Miranda Rose, above, is ranked among the world's top achievers in the International Baccalaureate exams this year.

The 20-year-old, of Woodstock Road, Oxford, is only the second student from St Clare's in Banbury Road to get 100 per cent in the scheme, which is similar to A level. Students study six subjects, and Miranda achieved the maximum total of 45 marks.

Miranda Rose She was one of 40,000 students across the world who took the International Baccalaureate this year.

Miranda, who is now considering applying to study English at Oxford University, said: "I've been very lucky with great teachers at St Clare's."

Miranda went to St Clare's after struggling with depression while at an Oxford school where she found the pressure to achieve top grades was too much.

She switched to St Clare's and opted to do the Baccalaureate instead. She said: "At my old school they do equate high grades with self-worth. I was on anti-depressants because of the pressure.

"I feel very proud now at having come back to academia and done well."

Miranda hopes pursue a career in film animation.

She was congratulated by the first pupil from St Clare's to score top grades, Charlotte Bathe, 20, of Shrivenham, who has just completed her first year studying natural sciences at Cambridge University.

Coralie Green, spokesman for St Clare's, said: "I'm delighted that they both enjoyed their time here and the international environment we provide. These are two very bright girls with great futures. We hope to have lots more students like them."
