Oxford and Horspath have lodged a complaint with the Home Counties Premier League following the decision to award themselves and Henley six points apiece for last Saturday's abandoned Division 2 West match.

Both clubs left the ground believing that second-placed Oxford had picked up eight points to Henley's five after rain washed out play following ten overs of the leaders' reply.

But the league ruled that it should count as an abandoned match - leaving the difference between the two clubs at 27 points.

Oxford skipper Rupert Evans said: "My understanding of the rules is that once you have played 70 overs it constitutes a game, so the bonus points should stand, which would benefit us because it would mean we would be within 25 points of Henley.

"We have only played just over half a game, but if we are only awarded six points we have not been rewarded for a very good batting display."

No decision has yet been made on Oxford's appeal with league chairman Ray Wood away on holiday.

Meanwhile, seamer Philip Evans returns from injury as Oxford seek to continue their good form when they face Amersham at St Catherine's College tomorrow.

The teenage seamer, who has missed the last two games after suffering a minor rip to an abdominal muscle, takes the place of Andy Parke, while left arm-spinner Ian Curtis is still away on holiday.

Evans Snr admitted that his much-improved Oxford side have only an outside chance of capturing the title.

But he added: "We just need to keep winning and hopefully Henley will slip up."
