Eleven people, including five children, were injured when two cars and a van crashed on the main Abingdon to Dorchester road at Burcot.
None were seriously injured but a fire officer said that some of the children, one of whom was only two months old, in the van were not wearing seat belts and were fortunate not to have been more seriously injured.
Kerry Blair from Abingdon fire station said: "Crashes like this bring home the need for people to wear seat belts to minimise injuries.
"Fortunately in this case the injuries turned out not to be that serious but the children were lucky."
The crash at 4pm on Wednesday blocked the road outside the Chequers pub. Police closed the road for two hours.
Five ambulances and two fire engines from Abingdon were called to the scene. A woman passenger in the back of one of the cars had to be cut free from the wreckage.
