Prolific title-winner Sue Lacey spurred her Oxford teammates into the last 16 of the Steradent Women's All-England Fours at Royal Leamington Spa last night.
City and County stars Pat Rist, Carol Gaskins, Sylvia Rogers and Lacey sped into an amazing 18-4 lead after just 11 ends to see off Cromer, Norfolk, 34-13 in the first round.
Lacey, who skipped her Cherwell side to three English indoor fours titles between 1996 and 1999, then steered her side to a 24-7 win over Cleethorpes. They now face Kings Heath, Birmingham, today for a place in the quarter-finals.
Cynthia Peterson and her City & County clubmates Jeanette Berry, Gill Blackmore and Kath Hawes were inched out 22-21 by Rochford, Essex, in round one.
