Sue Lacey's Oxford City and County team strung together two emphatic victories to reach the semi-finals of the Steradent Women's All-England Fours Championship at Royal Leamington Spa last night.
Sue Lacey Lacey, the three-times English indoor fours champion, stayed on course for more glory as she and her City and County clubmates Pat Rist, Carol Gaskins, and Sylvia Rogers made a rip-roaring start against Audrey Cox's Kings Heath, Birmingham, side in the last 16.
Lacey raced 9-2 clear over six ends and went on to romp home 23-16.
Lacey was in the groove again in the quarter-finals, building up a 9-4 lead over nine ends against Eileen Wray's Helmsley, Yorkshire, side.
Wray summoned up four singles to reduce the gap to 9-8 but Lacey was powerful on the run-in, notching ten shots over sevens ends to sweep to victory 19-9.
Now Lacey and company play Sue Springell's Chesham, Bucks, team today for a place in the final.
Rochford, Essex, four meet Porthleven from Cornwall in the other semi-final.
