Soldier Steve Amiss has returned from a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia.
Cpl Amiss, 22, from Grove, was an aircraft technician with a team that kept helicopters in the air.
A former pupil of King Alfred's School, Wantage, he was a warehouse worker before joining the army in 1996. His parents Geoff and Janet still live in Grove.
Cpl Amiss was a member of 659 Squadron, Army Air Corps, part of the NATO-led multi-national peacekeeping force SFOR. SFOR helps maintain the peace between the many ethnic groups in the area.
He said: "This was my first tour of Bosnia. The people were friendly and most of the tension was gone. There was certainly less tension than Kosovo where I was last year."
