A man who used a "fearsome" weapon to launch an unprovoked attack on another man has been jailed for 21 months.
Phillip Lindley, 46, of Norries Drive, Wallingford, set about Neil Simmonds with a crowbar in January.
Oxford Crown Court heard on Friday, August 17 that the defendant had befriended a woman and her ten-year-old son, whom he treated like his own son.
But trouble flared after the boy's mother formed a relationship with Mr Simmonds, whom he did not like.
Paul Mitchell, defending, said Lindley confronted Mr Simmonds with the bar with a view to scaring him, but lost control.
Judge Anthony King said: "You used a fearsome weapon. Your intention was to terrorise but you lost control.
"You inflicted injuries to Mr Simmonds' head and body, which included a wound which needed 20 stitches."
