A former Wantage schoolgirl is looking forward to seeing action overseas, after graduating from Sandhurst military college.
Victoria Deakin, 22, from Baulking, near Wantage, spent a year training at the world famous Royal Military Academy. The former student of King Alfred's College in Wantage is now set to join The Royal Artillery at its base in Wiltshire, before receiving her first overseas posting - possibly peace-keeping in the former Yugoslavia.
Women have only been accepted at the academy since 1984, and are still very much a minority, making up around 20 per cent of the intake.
She said: "I had been looking forward to it for ages. I don't think many people enjoy Sandhurst, but I liked it a lot."
