A charity shop manager got a nasty surprise for her birthday after vandals caused more than £3,000 of damage to the shop she runs.
Two windows of the Katharine House Hospice charity shop, in Wesely Lane, Bicester, have been smashed for the second time in just under a year.
The windows, measuring one-and-a-half by three metres, will cost nearly £3,000 to replace.
Temporary boards have been put up in the windows to stop any further damage.
Manager Lorna Honour-White and her husband, Peter, were both celebrating their birthdays on Friday when she was called to the shop.
She said: "We were planning a lovely day at home with the children.
"But I was called out at 8am by one of our volunteers who noticed it."
She described the vandals as "mindless", adding: "I would rather give the money that is wasted on replacing the windows as a gratuitous payment to our volunteers."
Fortunately, the shop is insured. But the charity will still have to pay the first £500 and the claim will affect future premiums.
Andrew Langford, director of Katharine House Hospice, said: "It's those costs that are the nuisance.
"I don't understand why they did it, they didn't steal anything."
Mr Langford added that it was the fifth time the shop's windows have been targeted by vandals in the last two years.
