A playgroup hopes more families will use its services after a successful open day.

The Risinghurst Playgroup, based at Risinghurst Community Centre in Kiln Lane, held an open day last Friday in a bid to encourage more families to take part in the group's activities.

Numbers are low and the playgroup, which is open four days a week, held the event to raise its profile and funds. A bouncy castle and games entertained the children while the grown-ups could enjoy browsing a variety of stalls selling bric-a-brac at the fun day.

Oxfordshire Play Association, which exists to promote play among young children in the county has echoed the call for more families to make use of local facilities. Spokesman Yolanda Williams said: "Play helps children to develop socially, creatively, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
