Oxford City's 18-year-old Nathan Douglas was in brilliant form as he finished second in the triple jump for Great Britain against the USA in the Norwich Union under 20 international at Stoke-on-Trent.

Nathan, who has won the English Schools' championship for the past two years, was in hot form, recording a leap of 15.50m.

Meanwhile, Radley Ladies' Rachel Brenton came through one of the toughest tests of her short career finishing in third place overall, despite at 16 being the youngest jumper in the field.

She recorded a leap of 11.82m, finishing behind two 19-year-olds from the USA.

Brenton was also in action in the senior inter-counties match at Walthamstow.

In unpleasant conditions, she defied the wet weather with a jump of 11.35m in a fabulous display of triple-jumping.

In all, 13 Oxfordshire ladies competed against some of the best athletes in the south of England.

Due to the conditions, performances were under par but an excellent team effort assisted the team to sixth place overall.

Other good individual performances came from Jan Ellacott, with a personal best of 62.6 secs in the 400m.

In the 4x100m relay, Brenton starred again as the team clocked 49.8 secs for third place, despite fielding three under 17 athletes.

The pole vault was cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.
