Four notable figures in Oxford Blackbirds Boys FC's history will be remembered in the club's annual seven-a-side tournament on Saturday.

Matches will take place in four age groups - at under 7, 8, 9 and 10.

In the A section of the under 7s competition, teams will play for the Gordon Simmons Memorial Trophy.

Gordon, a life member of the league who had a great interest in boys football on Blackbird Leys, died recently.

In the A section of the under 8s event, teams will compete for the George Buckett Memorial Trophy.

George was involved with the boys club back in the 60s/70s and died prematurely.

Meanwhile, in the A section of the under 9 competition, the boys will be battling it out for the Kevin Durham Memorial Trophy.

Kevin, who died just on the brink of setting out on a professional career with Barnet, played for the club in the 1970s.

In the under 10 event, teams in the A section will be vying for the Dave Simlett Memorial Trophy. He was Blackbirds' treasurer until his death two years ago.

Oxford Mail Boys' League press officer Myra Medlock said: "We have introduced these memorial trophies this year as it was felt the names of these well-liked people should live on within the club and the memories we hold of them."
