Midfielder Dave Savage has been ruled out of Oxford United's Nationwide League Division 3 encounter against Shrewsbury Town at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday with an ankle injury.
Dave SavageThe 28-year-old summer signing was substituted when falling awkwardly after just seven minutes of United's 2-1 extra-time defeat by Gillingham in the Worthington Cup on Tuesday.
Manager Mark Wright said: "He won't be fit for the weekend. He turned over on the ankle and there is a bit of damage.
"We won't know until he has an X-ray how much, but we are expecting the worst because the physio (Neil Sullivan) has said it looks like ankle ligaments. It's a shame."
The former Northampton man has impressed in United's opening two games, and his absence is bound to be a blow to Wright.
