United at last came up with a potent pairing in attack as they chalked up their first win of the season yesterday.
Phil Gray and Andy Scott found the unlikely surroundings of Halifax's The Shay the perfect place to hit it off, combining well and scoring a goal apiece in the opening minutes to bring the U's a 2-1 victory - and Mark Wright his first win as Oxford manager.
"As a pairing, that's the best I've seen them," Wright admitted.
Unfortunately for Scott, he lasted only 45 minutes as he was red-carded for a second bookable offence which took some of the gloss off the performance.
"Andy Scott had a bit of a point to prove. He threw himself around and had a good 45 minutes," Wright added.
"That first win has been a long time coming. It's been long overdue."
