Plans to resurrect Burford's community hospital into a Healthy Living Centre have received a major boost.
The Sheep Street building has been offered to the Burford Phoenix Trust for £500,000.
Now, Phoenix will forge ahead with fundraising and detailed plans to convert the hospital into a centre offering day care, complementary therapies, and specialist treatment for Alzheimer's patients.
Chris Davies, Phoenix chairman, said: "It has taken us three and a half years to reach this starting line.
"This is terrific news and a tremendous boost to the trustees and the volunteers who have put so much into the cause."
South West Oxfordshire's Primary Care Trust's decision to offer the building to Phoenix was welcomed by a recent meeting of the cabinet of West Oxfordshire District Council.
Tony Walker, district council chairman, said: "It was folly to close Burford hospital in the first place. It seems all the hard work and perseverance has paid off."
