Thame United could appeal to the Football Association against midfielder Neil Greig's sending-off in the mass brawl at the end of their FA Cup win over Worthing at Windmill Stadium on Saturday.
Manager Andy Sinnott believes substitute Greig, who was making his first appearance for 18 months following a hernia injury and had only been on the pitch for four minutes, was a victim of mistaken identity.
The preliminary round tie boiled over in the 90th minute when Worthing's Marc Rice, who was also sent off, punched Rob Smith in the face and players from both sides became involved in a melee.
Sinnott said: "I think the referee decided he had to have someone else off to even it up. I think it was a case of mistaken identity.
"It was the linesman who called his attention to it and he said he saw Neil throw a punch, but I didn't.
"Neil was not even in the hub of the thing. He was very unlucky and he was distraught about it."
Now Thame will await the referee's report before deciding whether to appeal against Greig's red card.
Meanwhile, Smith, who suffered cuts under and above his eye, is expected to be fit for tonight's trip to Uxbridge in Ryman League Division 1.
Mark Jones is out with an ankle injury, but James Saulsbury returns, and Mick Swaysland faces a fitness test on his thigh strain.
