Neighbours of an Oxford pub have opposed an application to extend its opening hours because of their concerns about late-night drunken rowdiness.
The Jericho Cafe, in Walton Street, has applied for permission to extend its closing hour from 11pm to 1am between Thursday and Saturday.
Opponents, who include the management of the Phoenix Picture House, said an extension would increase noise, vandalism, litter, cars and nuisance.
Oxford City Council has received 20 objections to the change and 19 householders in nearby Observatory Street have signed a petition against it.
Russell Auger, of Walton Street, said customers leaving the Jericho did not respect his privacy.
He said: "People leaving the Jericho late at night often urinate in my doorway, leave rubbish and even sleep in my doorway. Later hours would encourage more of the same," he said.
Staff at the Phoenix Picture House, said customers could hear noise from the pub while watching films. The cinema has late screenings that finish at 1.30am between Thursday and Saturday.
The manager, Martin Jennings, the manager, feared the situation could become worse.
He said: "We are worried that an increase in live performances might result in noise disruption from the beer garden."
The manager of the Jericho refused to comment on the objections made to the application.
Other pubs that have applied to change their closing hours include Yates's Wine Lodge, in George Street, from 1am to 2am on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday from 10.30pm to midnight; The Wig and Pen, in George Street, from 11pm to midnight, Mondays to Saturdays; and Mood Music Cocktail Bar, in George Street, from 5pm to 2am, Sunday to Thursday and 5pm to 3am on Friday and Saturday.
