Five Scouts from the Witney area rolled up their sleeves and washed police cars and vans to raise money towards a trip to Thailand next year.

Simon Phillipson, Simon Halford, Jo Hartley, Eric Dolan and Sam Burgum have been selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Thailand, between Christmas 2002 and New Year 2003.

The 36-strong group of scouts from Oxfordshire, with their four leaders, will join 2,500 other scouts.

Pc Bill Oddy invited them to clean the vehicles at Witney Police Station to help them raise money towards the trip.

Pc Oddy said: "It is good to see these young people working together as a team and in doing so contribute to the fundraising activities necessary to finance their trip to Thailand."

The assistant county commissioner for Oxfordshire Scouts Paul Burgum said: "We need to raise about £100,000 over the next 12 months."
