Bicester Town had three players sent off after a 22-man brawl marred last night's Cherry Red Records Hellenic League clash at Abingdon United.

Town eventually crashed 8-1 at Northcourt Road after player-manager Barry Grant, Chris Johnson, and Stuart Fox were all dismissed.

After Carl Henry and De-Mortel had put Abingdon 2-1 up at the break, further strikes Henry, Jason Maciak, Kai Ridley, Gibbons and Hamp put Bicester to the sword. Alex Lynch bagged Bicester's consolation goal.

Grant and Johnson were the first to see red when they got involved in the brawl midway through the second half.

Fox was dismissed 15 minutes from time for a separate incident.

After the match, Bicester boss Grant apologised for the actions which led to his dismissal. "What I did was totally unacceptable," he said.

"My actions were disgraceful and I apologised after the match. I'm not normally a violent player, but just got caught up in the heat of the moment, protecting my players."

Grant and Johnson received their marching orders when a full-blown brawl broke out with Abingdon leading 4-1. No Abingdon players were dismissed, but Grant admitted he was in the wrong.

"I think Chris (Johnson) was a little unlucky, because he wasn't really involved," Grant said. "I have to accept whatever punishment comes my way, because it was out of order."
