Morrells Oxford Sunday League round-up
Premier Division champions and Presidents Cup holders Star Royal made a superb start to the new season when they lifted the Pete Faulkner Memorial Cup after a 5-2 victory against AFC Jericho.
Steve Jenkins set Star Royal on their way with a 25-yard strike Chances came and went at both ends before Steve Jenkins thumped home a 25-yard free kick to give Star the lead on 26 minutes.
Jericho were soon level through Nathan Foley, but Jenkins restored Star's lead from the penalty spot just before the break.
Star then took control through Wayne Herbert and Carl Henry, but Dean Joseph pulled one back. Ian Macaskill sealed the 5-2 victory.
In the Premier Division, Star Wanderers overcame the challenge of Blackbird Leys Sunday in a 3-2 victory.
Blackbird opened the scoring early in the second half through Paul Grossman, but Star's new signing Chris Leach drove home from outside the area to level and Craig Simpson put them in front when he bent a free kick round the wall.
Pete Higgins volleyed home a Tom Jerred cross to make it 3-1, but Blackbirds' Luke Paduka pulled one back towards the end.
Despite being held 2-2 until half time, Cowley Social ran out deserved 4-2 winners at Chase Finance in their Division 1 game thanks to strikes from Neil Holman, Alan Crook, Gary Duckett and Gary Weaving.
North Oxford CC opened their Division 2 season with a solid 5-1 victory over newly-promoted Stadhampton. They took the lead on 35 minutes through Darren Day, but Stadhampton fought back and equalised through Zach Marsh.
NOCC restored their lead with a goal from Gary Chapman, which was followed by a cheekily executed chip from Jerome McCalmon. A further goal followed after a fine four-man move saw NOCC lead 4-1before debutant Matty Hambridge sealed the result from 30-yards with a fifth goal.
Arncott opened their Division 3 account after 15 minutes at home to Chase Finance Res through Chris McMillan. He added a second from the spot before the break.
Chase continued to battle and only a fine defensive display from Arncott's centre backs Derek Moore and Lewis Smith kept them out allowing Simon O'Connor to settle the game.
Division 5 new boys Jamii battled hard for their first points, beating AFC Porto 3-2. Porto opened in the first half through Lee Parkins, but Eddie Mohammed levelled.
Porto again took the lead in the second half through Phil Cook but Donnald Menga again pulled Jamii level and George Gatau-Pongie ensured they took all three points.
