Mark Wright made a move this week for one of the strikers Oxford United faced last weekend - but was staggered by the fee and the player's wages.
Ex-Morecambe striker Justin Jackson looked a lively customer for Rushden & Diamonds at The Kassam Stadium when he combined well with Duane Darby during United's 3-2 win.
So, it came as quite a shock when Jackson was sold to Conference club Doncaster Rovers for a six-figure sum just a couple of days later.
And Wright admited: "I made an inquiry for Jackson. But the fee he went for was £125,000 and I couldn't believe the wages that were being asked. They would have blown our wages out of the window."
Rushden manager Brian Talbot said he let the striker go because he felt it was the right time for him to move on.
