A man found guilty of harassing a former colleague at an Indian restaurant intends to appeal against the conviction.

Tony Henton, 47, of West Way, Botley, was convicted of harassing Zineet Zaman, between May 5 and August 16, by sending her letters and visiting her at her home in Preachers Lane and at the Aziz Restaurant, Cowley Road, where she works.

Henton had denied the charge but the chairman of the bench, Terry Gardenar, told Monday's hearing at Oxford Magistrates Court that the court was satisfied the letters sent to Mrs Zaman were threatening.

He told Henton: "We accept the course of conduct followed by you did cause Mrs Zaman alarm and distress on at least two occasions."

The court heard Henton had been sentenced to 140 hours community service in 1998 for harassing Nina Pereira at the Randolph Hotel in Beaumont Street, Oxford, where she worked.

The case was adjourned for sentencing until October 9.

Henton was bailed on condition he does not contact Mrs Zaman or visit her home or workplace.
