Oxford United, whose players are busy preparing for their match at Exeter tomorrow, are urging fans to hold fire before making arrangements for the Division 3 match against fellow Devon side Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, October 6.

United originally made the game at The Kassam Stadium a 1pm kick-off, to avoid clashing with England's vital World Cup qualifier against Greece at Old Trafford, which was expected to start at 3pm.

However, with England winning in Munich to go level on points with Germany in Group 9, FIFA are insisting that England kick off at the same time as Germany take on Finland, so that neither country gains an advantage.

And the FA say they still haven't had confirmation when Germany's game will start.

"It will be either 3pm or 6pm, but it hasn't been confirmed," said a spokeswoman at the FA.

Chris Williams, Oxford United's communications officer, admitted: "This has caused a lot of confusion among our supporters.

"We originally made our game with Plymouth 1o'clock to avoid clashing with England-Greece, but England now have to coincide with Germany and it may go back to 6o'clock.

"If that happens, we may go back to 3pm, but it's difficult because we've sold tickets now for 1pm.

"We've also been selling tickets for the restaurant for fans to have a meal as they watch the England game afterwards.

"But if we are 1pm, and England start at 3pm, they've got about three minutes to get from the end of our match to the start of England!"
