Both sides took time to settle in windy conditions but Clanfield had the better of the early exchanges, Kevin Alcraft and Richard Bell going close.
The home side took the game to Letcombe in the second half but it was the visitors who almost broke the deadlock, a Dave Richardson scorcher being superbly saved by Jason Hunt.
The only goal of the game came in the 55th minute. Adam Lock's corner was flicked on by Alcraft and Steve Wright buried the header.
Seb Wilsker hit the bar as the home side secured their first league win of the season.
