FA Cup second qualifying round: Oxford City 2, Leatherhead 0

Two first-half goals saw Oxford City safely through to the second qualifying round of the AXA FA Cup against fellow Ryman League side Leatherhead at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

The victory earns them a trip to Windsor & Eton in the next round on September 29.

City nearly took the lead after four minutes when Steve Arkins saw his effort scrambled off the line.

Leatherhead's Danny Oliver replied when he charged down Michael Thorp's clearance, but was wide with his shot.

The home side did not have long to wait for their opening goal which arrived after 11 minutes. Mickey Lewis played the ball through to Arkins, whose neat backheel set up John Mitchell to score from an acute angle.

It maintained Mitchell's record of scoring in each of his last eight matches.

Little was seen of the visitors' attack as City controlled most of the play, their second goal coming on the half hour.

Matty Whitehead swung over a cross which Arkins headed just inside the upright.

Arkins again went close with two more good efforts before the break.

After the interval it was a different looking Leatherhead side as the Surrey outfit stepped up their efforts, although rarely looking dangerous.

Two minutes from the end, City were reduced to ten men when Chris Organ was dismissed for remarks made to the referee.

Oxford C: Nelson, Farley, Dark, Druce (Abbasi 87), Thorp (Ferreira 66), Organ, Lewis, Whitehead, Arkins, Mitchell, Wimble.

Referee: A Cane.

Attendance: 185.
