Elderly tenants are being warned to beware of a conman trying to hoax his way into their homes.
The alert comes from the Vale Housing Association, in Abingdon. Tenants are being told to be extra vigilant and to use their help alarms if they see anything suspicious, or if he knocks on their door.
Emily Griffiths, communications and research manager, said: "We have had a series of complaints from the Trendell Place and Darrel Way parts of Abingdon. It always seems to be the same man.
"He is described as white, aged between 30 and 40 and is usually wearing a bright green jumper.
"He goes from door to door offering carpets free to old people to get into their homes.
"Several thefts have taken place."
Abingdon police have been told about the incidents.
Mrs Griffiths said: "We want people to take every precaution.
"They should never let strangers into their homes unless they have been properly identified.
"It is very worrying when you have these creatures preying on the elderly."
