Headington Roadrunners' women's team took the AAA National 10K team title on a weekend of stunning success for the club.

Solid runs from Jude Craft and Allison Hirst were backed up by a magnificent personal best from fast-improving Maddie Horton.

Alison HirstHeadington's success came as a complete surprise to the outside world, but recent good results in the South of England road relays and cross-country championships have shown that this was no flash-in-the-pan.

The Headington women were part of a successful Oxfordshire women's team which came seventh in the Inter-Counties championships. Oxfordshire's men were 13th.

HIRST grabbed the glory as she took the women's title of the National British veterans 10km championship by grabbing victory in a thrilling sprint finish at Dulwich.

Hirst clocked a time of 37min 14secs on a hilly three-lap course in blustery conditions to clinch the title.

Her victory comes only a week after the Headington Roadrunners women's team took the English National AAA club 10km championship title in Cheltenham.

That has set the scene for their assault on the regional title at the SEAA four-stage relays at Aldershot at the end of this month.
