FA Cup: Thame Utd 2, Horsham YMCA 0
Thame United were made to work hard for this victory in front of the Sky TV cameras in last night's FA Cup first qualifying round replay by a resilient Horsham YMCA side.
Just as in Saturday's game, United enjoyed the lion's share of possession but found it hard to break down the Sussex League side.
They had to wait until the last ten minutes to score the goals that clinched a home tie against Dr Martens League high-flyers Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday week.
It was all one-way traffic for Thame early on but only a fingertip save by keeper Alan Foster prevented Horsham taking a half-time lead.
Thame made a double substitution in the 63rd minute and the fresh legs soon made an impact.
In the 73rd minute, substitute Mark Simms latched on to Alan Foster's long clearance and was hauled down by Dean Potter on the edge of the penalty area. Potter was sent off but Justin Lee's well-struck free kick was blocked.
Simms finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute. From Justin Merritt's pass, he fired a left-foot shot past keeper Dumbrill and into the far corner of the net.
Simms went close again in the 89th minute, clipping the post.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 90th minute when Lee's cross was headed home at the far post by Wayne Cort.
Horsham were reduced to nine men before the restart when Stuart McCreadie was sent off for dissent.
**Thame: Foster, Saulsbury, Avery, Brown, Williams, Merritt, Lee, Potter, Cort, Smith (Fontaine 63), West (Simms 63). Subs not used: Curran, Bradley, S Smith.
