A motorcyclist died on his 53rd birthday when he lost control of his bike and hit a lamppost, an inquest heard.
Nigel Gatehouse, of Heathcote Place, Abingdon, was riding along Audlett Drive on New Year's Day when his bike veered to the left as he looked over his right shoulder to check the road behind him.
The motorbike hit the kerb and threw him off on to the verge, where he struck a lamppost. He was certified dead at the scene.
Traffic officer Pc Paul said it was 'unfortunate' the lamppost was there, as it was 'almost certainly' that which had caused his fatal injuries.
Coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
