Cyclists are being asked to get on their bikes to help raise money for Oxford's new £2m children's accident and emergency department.

A sponsored bike ride around the city, organised by developer Laing Homes, will cover two routes tailor-made for family riders and serious cyclists.

The event will start and finish at Cutteslowe Park, in north Oxford. Cyclists can travel around Summertown on a five-mile route or tackle a more challenging 15-mile route.

Entrants will be able to start between 9am and 11.30am, with the closing ceremony at 3pm.

There are three categories: fanatics, for serious riders; fun riders in fancy dress; and family club for parents and children over 18 months old.

The event, on Sunday, October 14, costs £2 to enter. Laing Homes will donate £1 to the hospital for every rider taking part.

Prizes donated by Halfords will go to the rider who raises most money.

Registration forms are available from reception at the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Headington, Sainsbury's, in the Westgate Centre, and Halfords, in Cowley. For more information, call 0800 163724.
