Changes are being made to Oxfordshire's registration service to make it more user-friendly.
From October 1, people will be able to go to the county register office of their choice to register a birth, death or marriage and obtain the relevant certificates. At the moment, people are tied to attending specific offices depending on where they live or where the event occurred.
Chris Mitchell, head of business and support services at Oxfordshire County Council, said: "At the moment, someone living in Witney would have to go to the Witney register office, which is not convenient if they work in Oxford."
A new office is to open one day a week in Carterton Town Hall from October 1. Historical records will all be based at Oxford register office, which will open six days a week.
