Banbury Utd 2, Hastings Tn 3
Hastings showed just why they are unbeaten in all competitions this season with a professional display to see off Banbury in the Dr Martens League Eastern Division at The Stadium.
The visitors had the bulk of the possession in the first-half but were kept in check by a workmanlike performance from the Banbury rearguard.
It was Banbury who scored first with a stunning goal. The move started deep in Banbury's half with Jody McKay, Jon Corbett and Jimmy Simpson all involved before Matty Gooderick raced away and curled a shot past keeper Dave King.
The home defence held out well until injury time when they failed to clear a ball and Danny Simmonds unleashed a fierce angled shot from 15 yards for the equaliser.
Hastings took the lead somewhat fortuitously in the 52nd minute. Lee McRobert was allowed to run unchallenged towards goal, and his powerful shot took a wicked deflection to leave Simon Tricker helpless.
Banbury equalised on 66 minutes when Liam O'Neill was brought down in the penalty area, and Ady Fuller stroked the spot-kick past King.
Banbury were now matching Hastings and the game could have gone either way, but it was the leaders who snatched the winner in the 89th minute in spectacular fashion.
A quick counter-attack caught Banbury out of position, and substitute Chris Honey hit a powerful shot into the net.
Banbury: Tricker, Wallbridge, Joyce (Muckelberg 84), Sullivan, Fuller, Corbett, Travers (O'Neill 58), Milner, Gooderick, McKay (Redknap 58).
Attendance: 255.
