Tory leader William Hague has visited Abingdon to help support Conservative candidate Ed Matts and tell voters that he was still in the business of winning the election, dismissing suggestions that tactical voting could scupper his party's chances of re-taking the Oxford West and Abingdon seat.

Mr Hague was in an up-beat mood, calling on voters to topple the "arrogant" Blair Government that had let down the people of Britain.

Accompanied by his wife Ffion, Mr Hague flew into Abingdon by helicopter from Hastings and spent 20 minutes in the Market Place addressing a crowd packed with Tory supporters and placard waving Labour followers.

Mr. Hague said: "This is a Government that made all sorts of promises but is all spin and no delivery. This Government has given the lowest morale in our public services we have ever seen."
