A community project in east Oxford is marking International Day of Older Persons (Monday, October 1) by launching a drive to recruit more volunteers aged over 55.

Full Circle brings children and older people together through a series of lunchtime clubs in schools where volunteers and pupils share games, activities, music and story-telling.

The scheme was launched in May at East Oxford First School, but has proved so popular that volunteers are needed to expand into other schools.

Full Circle co-ordinator Teresa Garlake said: "Children gain such a lot by spending time with older people who have more time to talk to and listen to them. We've seen with the clubs we run at East Oxford First School that the generations really do have fun together."

Full Circle can be contacted at 69 East Avenue, Oxford.
