Abingdon's new police chief has pledged to work with the community and direct resources where they are most needed.
Insp Robin Rickard takes over the role from Insp Graham Sutherland, who has moved to a post at the Thames Valley Police headquarters in Kidlington.
Insp Rickard said: "I look forward to building on Graham's many achievements, working closely with other agencies - in particular the local authority - to build a community in which we feel safe and as free as possible from crime and the fear of crime.
"I am looking forward to a rewarding and challenging time at Abingdon."
After joining Thames Valley Police in 1989, Insp Rickard spent his first four years stationed at Wantage. For the last eight years, he has worked as a constable, sergeant and inspector in the Oxford police area. His last post was with the Oxford area's crime and disorder reduction team.
Supt Phil Gormley, area commander for the Southern Oxfordshire police area, said: "I am delighted to welcome Insp Rickard to the police area.
"I am confident that he will build upon Insp Sutherland's achievements and continue to provide an excellent police service to the people of Abingdon."
