Norman Sylla staked a strong claim for a professional contract when he came off the bench to hit a last-minute winner for Oxford United Reserves in their 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers Res at Court Place Farm yesterday.
Sylla replaced Chris Hackett with just six minutes to go of the Avon Combination match, but was in the right place at the right time to convert Kelvin McIntosh's right-wing cross as the game looked like ending all-square.
Sylla, a French triallist, scored in the reserves' 1-1 draw against Brighton last month, and coach Mike Ford admitted he is doing his chances of a permanent deal no harm at all with his performances.
