SOMETHING has to give at lunchtime today when in-form Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle meet head-on in Division 3 at The Kassam Stadium.
The game has a 1pm kick-off so United fans can see the England v Greece World Cup qualifier in the stadium's restaurant afterwards - providing they have pre-booked.
The U's recent form has been much more digestible for their fans.
They have put together a strong three-match unbeaten run, which includes two testing away games, but opponents Plymouth have gone eight matches without defeat and are unbeaten away from home this season.
Paul Tait and Jamie Brooks have been pressing their claims for a recall with good performances for the reserves in midweek, yet United manager Mark Wright may well keep with the side which earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers last Saturday.
Wright has asked his players, and the fans, for patience, because Argyle, who often play a 4-5-1 formation on their travels, are difficult to break down and dangerous when they break.
Argyle manager Paul Sturrock prefers to describe his team's formation as 4-1-4-1, with French midfielder David Friio sitting in front of the back four and acting as playmaker.
Plymouth centre back Graham Coughlan and United goalkeeper Ian McCaldon were teammates together at Livingston last season. Sturrock, named Division 3 manager of the month for September, will choose between Canadian international winger Jason Bent and striker Ian Stonebridge.
If past history is anything to go by, he will probably opt for Bent and keep Mickey Evans on his own up front. And with United possibly playing a 3-5-2 formation, that is likely to make the middle of the park very congested.
Before the game, a United player will get the keys to a Jaguar as the winner of the Guy Salmon Jaguar Player of the Month award for September. Dean Whitehead, Scott Guyett, Wayne Hatswell and Sam Ricketts are all in the running for it.
Oxford Utd: (from) McCaldon, Bolland, Guyett, Hatswell, Stockley, Thomas, Savage, Whitehead, Ricketts, Moody, Omoyinmi, Tait, Richardson, Gray, Brooks, Powell, Hackett, Knight.
Plymouth Argyle: (probable) Larrieu, Worrall, Coughlan, Wotton, McGlinchey, Phillips, Friio, Adams, Hodges, Bent, Evans. Subs from: Stonebridge, Wills, McCormick, Banger, Evers, Beswetherick.
