Mathematics lecturer Shaun Forth was joined by work colleagues from Shrivenham's Royal Military College in a sponsored swim to raise money for Witney's Springfield School.
Mr Forth and his wife Julie, from Faringdon, have two children, Joshua, seven, and Ruby, four. Ruby is a pupil at the school, which looks after children with physical and learning difficulties.
"We aimed to swim the distance between Dover and Calais, which is about 24 miles," said Mr Forth.
The swim raised more than £3,000 and £1,510 has gone to the school's £250,000 appeal for a hydrotherapy pool. The remainder is for special equipment for Ruby.
