A 59-year-old man has gone on trial accused of a "serious error of judgement" while driving which caused the death of a Hook Norton teenager.
Gordon Harris, of Great Rollright, near Chipping Norton, denies causing death by dangerous driving in a head-on crash on the B4022 at Great Tew, near Banbury, on March 24 last year.
The driver of the other car, Barnabas Jackson, 18, died of multiple injuries, Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday.
John Denniss, prosecuting, said Mr Harris "made a serious error of judgement, apparently to overtake another car, near a blind corner and a dip in the road.
"There was a collision. Mr Jackson died almost immediately from multiple injuries, and his car then burst into flames. The defendant was also seriously injured."
Accident investigator Pc Steve Moffat said Mr Harris' Mitsubishi "overwhelmed" Mr Jackson's Peugeot, pushing it back down the hill. He said neither driver was speeding.
The case continues.
